HISTORY OF TENNESSEE RV

Tennessee RV is a shining example of success built on commitment to excellence, outstanding customer service, employee loyalty, and leadership reflecting the core values of the Knoxville RV Dealer. Coowners Charlie Anderson and Roger Sellers share a long history that ultimately brought about the existence of Tennessee RV.

In true Horatio Alger fashion, Roger Sellers entered the recreational vehicle industry in 1980 as a "runner" for the parts department at Foretravel, a high end motor coach manufacturer based in Texas.A Tennessee native, Roger rose through the ranks emerging as the general manager for the Foretravel factory dealership in Kodak, Tennessee.

In 2004, market conditions forced closure of all Foretravel factory dealerships, although the Kodak location would be among the last to close due to its central location and market strength. Roger wasfaced with a difficult decision. The Kodak RV dealership could not remain open under the Foretravel name, and the people with whom he worked, family he would say, were going to be losing their jobs with no severance pay available. Years of experience would be lost

"I just couldn't bring myself to do it, so I started thinking about what I could do, Roger said. With that statement, Charlie Anderson would enter the equation. Charlie had been a long time and repeat customer with the Foretravel dealership under Roger's leadership, and was living in his motor home while his new home was being built in Kodak. Roger approached Charlie, asking if he would be interested in partnering in a new Tennessee RV dealership, showing him a prospective investor proforma. With both men recognizing the potential of an RV dealership in the Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Kodak, Knoxville, Smoky Mountain area, they basically agreed to enter into partnership with a handshake to seal the agreement.

Tennessee RV was born, and opened its doors in March, 2004 at Sevierville, TN, retaining more than half of the original Foretravel employees who might otherwise have been unemployed. "I'm glad we were able to keep people in their jobs," said Roger.

Quickly recognizing the need for differentiation and growth of market share, Roger starting thinking about combining the dealership with an RV retail store, such as Camping World. A Kentucky based retailer, Camping World carries a combination of RV specific equipment as well as general camping supplies, a perfect complement to the RV dealership.

Just slightly more than two years later, in June of 2007, Tennessee RV settled into its new home in Knoxville, adjoining a Camping World store. Estimated to bring approximately $40 million in annual revenue and 60 jobs to Knox county, the new facility is located just off I-40 at exit 398. Tennessee RV is now sited on 11 acres with a 16 bay service center and total facility space at 48,000 square feet. Inventory is usually maintained at approximately 250 RV's, ranging in price from around $12,000 to over $500,000.

Not content to rest on the success Tennessee RV was experiencing, Roger continued his focus on excellence in the industry. This was recognized by Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) in September, 2008 and again in 2009. Each year RVDA recognizes 50 RV dealers across the nation and honors them with the prestigious award, Top 50 Dealer. This is an award which does not focus solely on sales, it recognizes outstanding personal customer service, sound business practices, and forwardthinking philosophies all characteristics that Roger Sellers exemplifies in his guidance of Tennessee RV.

When asked about long range goals for Tennessee RV, Roger talks about the importance of meeting customer requirements, the expansion of product lines, participation in industry associations, and the room for growth within the RV industry. These are not idle observations, as Roger demonstrates his commitment to these principles through his actions. He is involved in industry RV associations, and has implemented changes withinTennessee RV designed to meet changing customer service requirements, e.g., the addition of a second facility to support RV rentals, RV storage and Mobile RV Service.
